to cut a avery long, though exciting tail short, ill just blurt it out to the blogosphere: im the new SRC Media Officer. The official title i must admit does sound a shade glossier than Media Officer - it stands as the 'Media and Publicity Office.'

To the business end of things. I am currently writing the proposal for my portfolio for my term of office, and the recurring question in mind is one that has become fimiliar over the last two years. What is the purpose of this particular initiative, and how i set up the systems of this initiative to best attain those objectives?

So what is the purpose/objectives of the office of media of the SRC at wits? (i welcome comment on this). After not much thought(yet), i hazard that it is two things primarily:

1) To provide the crucial(even more so these days!) link between the SRC exec and the larger student body and,
2) To provide the framework and platform for the interaction of students with the vast world of media, and through the mechanisms of media(esp new media) introduce students to what i like to term the 'world of ideas, debate and discourse.'

Im limited in the time i have availible to post this thought so have to refrain from expanding on the above 2 points.

Are there other fundamental duties and purposes of the office of media at wits? i'd love to know.

Btw il deal with the rather more juicy part of translating these objectives into workable solution soon.
