The fundamental theory of life and greatness
Destiny is a matter much debated, much dissected and much explored yet it remains as elusive as ever, and no single mind may set in stone anything pertaining to destiny, except that little which religion has made clear. Thats a nice thing i think, because it means it can add my own, rather twisted, opinion on that fluid topic...
The moulding of life, the path your life trudges along, the shape your life assumes are all subject to destiny. They are all puppeteer-ed in a sense, by that almost mystical concept of destiny. Who you will become, what your legacy will be, whose lives will you touch(and change), what will you be remembered for.... These are questions that we ask of the future, questions that we extract from the content of what is to come, questions to which we know there is little hope in answering, questions to which in answering we can only but guess, guess and hope...
Yet many find an answer to these burning questions, to these vaguely-phrased yet firmly-fixed-in-our-minds, uncertainties of life...they call it destiny. They choose the idea and concept of destiny as an answer, as an explanation, as a response to what might be.....what could possibly materialise...they choose it often (yet not always) as an excuse...
It is convenient to do so, for destiny is like a wisp of smoke - it moulds and bends and sways and shapes into any conceivable space, and thus can be smoothly used as an answer to anything. It is impossible to pin it down, is destiny, to define it, and so, when it is used as a defence it is impregnable. To fight and defeat an idea, an excuse, one must know the nature of that idea - and destiny has no nature....
To hide behind the idea of destiny as, 'what will be, will be, and that is not in my hands,' is not just cowardly - it is selfish and dangerous. It is weakness of will that accepts that notion, and a defeatist-attitude that embraces it. To those whom the excuse is made, it is hurtful and empty...and beyond understanding.
For my part, i believe in destiny-but a different spice of destiny. Life may very well be puppeteer-ed by destiny, but destiny itself is controlled by the owner of that life. We are free to decide our future, if not with total accuracy, but we can certainly shape our destiny to a great degree....we, as the owners of the lives we lead, are free to paint the portraits of our life, to carve our paths through this world, to mould the future into what we desire....we are free to write our own destiny.
Of course there are things which have been decided by the Almighty and those things lie beyond our control. Also, the ultimate success of our endevours lie in the Hands of the Almighty, but even then, He has told us to strive for that which we would have....
and to me, that is greatness, that is to live – after all, greatness and true, vivid life can only come from writing ones own destiny.....and to that i strive forever...

Wow. this was one of the best discussions on taqdeer i've read. i've been debating the probability of the whole concept with myself lately.. as a control freak i had trouble accepting that some aspects of my life was out of my hands. but lately i've realised that if you dont accept destiny's place in our lives, you can quite easily drive yourself crazy.. nice one =)
Hi, Slms..
