jamiat superbowl convention. sad event

So I spoke at the jamiat youth convention. What was it like? Hmmm. The same, uninteresting, unproductive story. And yes, I am aware that as an official speaker at the convention I should not criticise the event. At least not so heavily. However, in the worlds of the latest virgin mobile advertising campaign, the truth will set you free. So here, ladies and gentlemen is the sad truth.

The purpose of a youth convention, in my mind, is many fold. Time does not allow me to delve into the intricacies of that, save to say that very broadly, the purpose is this: When a young guy leaves the event, he should leave with a better understanding of Islam, and an intention to improve his life in certain ways. So, he should have learnt something he did not know, something of importance naturally, and also come away with a few concrete resolutions to improve his live.

In all fairness to the organises, the one very productive resolution formed was that of the effort to make salah 5 times a day. Apart from that, however, there was sweet nothing. Now the argument that may be forming in your mind is, why, if the MSA had a role in the content of the convention, did we not attempt to address that imbalance? The answer is, we did. Our efforts were futile. Why? I shall explain that disappointing chain of events in a forth coming post. I withhold it for now, out of plain decency, until I have had the opportunity to convey my feelings personally to the jamiat and partners…. The truth must be told, and the truth will set us free. I hope

The above views do not purport to be those of the Muslim Student Association. Instead they are the views of the author, in his personal capacity.

i do remem ensuring you a place to talk at the 2006 convention... reason: if you're speaking you can have a say in the content and what people take home, at least thats the theory... how many of the "MSA" guys attended the meetings on a regular basis?

anon : i dont rem anything of the sort. perhaps if you were a little less scathing of the 'MSA' guys and more courageous than your current cowardly stand (at least leave your name.maybe the world will take you seriously), then we could have a serious discussion on the issue. till then my dear anon, you happen to be little more than a leave in the wind.
